I got Cynnamon as a Mothers' Day gift in 1994. She was a gift from one of my step-daughters when we lost our 16 year old poodle. She was a rescue from a pet shop. I guess it was a puppy mill. She is half Yellow Lab and half Golden Retriever. The wrong parents mated. She was beautiful. We still had our German Shephard mix who wasn't fixed. She was born Jan 27, 1994. She was with us except while I was at work. Then she stayed home with my husband and children. She and the Shep. loved to run from barn to barn and visit the horses. A little over a year later she had 13 puppies in the middle of my bed. She had 7 girls and 6 boys. They were beautiful. She was spayed about 6 weeks after that. We sold the puppies all but 4 who we kept. We kept 4 girls named Shadow, Miss Kitt, Bessie, and Tipper. Bessie had diabetes and we lost her in 2001. Tipper we lost her in 2003 of a hemorrhage. Cynnamon loved to swim in the pond. She didn't have a mean bone in her body. She loved everyone. The kids all grew up and moved out. Our first granddaughter, Chasity was born in Sept. of 2000. She and Cynnamon were best friends. When someone stopped beside Chasity, that was the only time I ever heard her growl. I knew then that she would protect any of us if someone tried to hurt us. In Jan. of 2006, she started to limp. I thought one of the other dogs had run over her leg with one of the kitchen chairs and had a lump on her right front leg. When it wasn't gone by morning, we called the vet. That's when we got the news that it was osteosarcoma. We had a biopsy done and after the pain and depression from that. and the fact that she was 12 years old, we chose no treatment, but pain control. We were told she had 4=6 months. We let her tell us when the time was up and she did. On Nov. 9, she refused to eat or even go outside, which is one thing she loved. She loved the outside and swimming. We gave her overnight to see if there was any improvement which there wasn't. We called the vet and took her in. She went to sleep with me holding her. The vet and the tech also had tears in their eyes. They thought Cynnamon was one of the ones that had beat the diagnosis. They had come to love her as much as I did. We had her creamated. Brought her home 3 days lter and spread her ashes on the hill where we had buried her 2 daughters and their father. She crossed the Bridge gently in my arms on Nov. 10 around 1200 noon. She is missed and will always be. Thank you for making her hero of the week. She will always be a hero to me.
