Age when diagnosed: 6

Tumors:

Our black german shepherd mix, Bandit, was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma tumor to her right front leg, distal radius (ankle area) in April of 2001. We made the very difficult decision to have the leg amptuated, in an attempt to save her life.

She recovered and adjusted to her new 3-legged status very quickly. Encouraged, we embarked on chemotherapy. We chose a carboplatin/doxorubicin protocol for her. She sailed through her chemotherapy with no problems.

She continued to not only survive, but to thrive, enjoying normal activities such as hiking and swimming, for several years.

On 1/12/07, after 5-1/2 years in remission, she went to the bridge, due to cancer in her liver, stomach and kidneys. She enjoyed a good long and normal life up to that point, and was really only ill the final two days before she left us. She was 12-1/2 years old. While she lived with her spirit and personality intact, she died with her grace and dignity intact.

Our message is that there is hope. Never give up. Never give in. We have no regrets.

No regrets
