Kurtis is a Bullmastiff. He weighs 155lbs and will be 6 yrs old in november. Kurtis is great!! He is a big teddy bear. He lives with his daughter Nina. Nina was the runt of the litter but I think she has no idea. He also lives with 2 cats. Who cannot stand the thought of me touching them but love to cuddle and rub on the dogs constantly. He even lets them eat out of his bowl without even complaining. He has 1/2 acre to run around in and does so with, Nina. They love barking at whoever walks in front of the house.

I came home from a trip in early July and found Kurtis was limping a little and had a small swelling on the wrist of his front left leg. I thought he had hurt it running around and gave it a few days. The limping had stopped but the swelling was still there. Took him to the vet late july and it's OS. I went to see 3 vets, including an orthopedic specialist for dogs. They all said the same thing....amputation or let nature takes its course.
I chose to have the biopsy done, there was still a SMALL chance it could have been a fungal bone infection. The vet just called with the results, it is OS. I had become somewhat at ease with the idea of an amputation. His lungs showed clear on the x-rays. But now that the time has come to call the vet and schedule the surgery, i'm having second thoughts.

I am not sure what would be more hearbreaking, putting Kurtis down or watching him possibly go through some of the bad results from the amputation or the growth of the cancer...
