Yesterday I had to have my best friend put to sleep. He has been a very special part of our lives for 5 years. Emmitt is a large breed Rottweiler, very, very sweet and loving. He loved everybody. My 4 year old granddaughter,Taegan, fell asleep on him one night when she was here. He never flinched. He loved kids, he loved me. He was diagnosed on October 10,2008, with a large mass in his side. He had surgery on 11/19/2008, and was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma,a few days later. It is a very aggressive cancer for animals and humans. Within a few weeks of surgery, the thing was back. Pathologist said no hope, maybe he had a year. Well Wednesday night he started having horrible seizures,& they went on all night and Thursday morning, we took him in to the vet. On the way, he had one in the car and another when we got there. With every seizure, he looked at me to help him. He was terrified. We had no choice but to put him down. Emmitt was suffering so intensely. They had to give him Valium to calm him down. We waited for our daughter Amanda to get there & when she arrived we called the Doctor in and we said goodbye. Dr. Sharp administered the meds to put him down, and we cried. Amanda and I stayed with him for 45 minutes loving on him, telling him we loved him. Oh how I miss him. He can't be replaced. He was one of a kind.
