Kai came into my life when he was 8 weeks old.

He was the sweetest little ball of fur, a Shih tzu.

I thought I bought him from a breeder, but now I realize it was more of a "puppy mill".

He checked out with parasites and had a very sensitive stomach always.

At around 7 months his eye became red and swollen. After about 2 months the inner eye started to move accross that eye. I thought I was taking him for surgery to fix that inner eye when the doctor told me there was a large mass behind his eye. She suggested an MRI for $2,500 down the road but I decided to check out other options. A CT scan one month latter showed a bone mass filling up the cavity of the entire right side of his face. The doctors said there was nothing anyone could do even if it was a human it would taken many, many surgeries to fix it, if they could.

On Kai's one year birthday we looked in the local free paper and saw and add, "ready to go, shih tzu puppies" about 30 minutes south from home. So off we went and lo and behold 3 male puppies were playing all around the kitchen floor. One sweet boy, Arlo, kept coming by to sit by me. He was the one.

At 13 months I finally had to painfully put Kai down. I know that the love from Kai exists in both Arlo and my kitten Gratia and of course in my heart today.

Best to all who experience the joys and saddness of a dog.
