Baci is an 11 year old Newfoundland and my heartdog. He was diagnosed with OSA of the right medial humerus in June of 2008.
Baci is black with a goofy white stripe up the top of his snout ( I call it "the smudge"), two white "pajama feet", and a white tip to his long, beautiful tail that he always makes sure is showing, no matter what position he is in! He is obviously very proud of it.
This sweet boy is a clown and is my hero because he has made me laugh since the first time I saw him at 5 weeks old. He is just naughty enough to be able to get away with it, because he seems to inject a bit of canine humor in everything he does.
A naughty Baci story:
A friend was visiting and she set down her city goodie-filled bag next to her while we caught up. We were talking intently and then both sat with open mouths when we saw Baci proudly trotting by with a baguette sticking out of his mouth. Said baguette had been in the bag next to her while we were sitting right there. We quickly rescued the baguette, but later realized that he had already stolen and eaten the entire wheel of Brie that she also had in her bag!
Baci lives with his littermate Dulse and I in a house in the woods of northern Wisconsin.
He will be undergoing palliative radiation therapy soon, but is doing fine on tramadol until then.
I have always realized how special this boy is, and even during my too-frequent crying jags these days, I have to realize that he had been a gift to me and that he knows it. Every moment with him now is precious.
Your stories have made me cry and I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone, but it has also been helpful knowing that there are others out there who know how I feel.
