Tango followed us home from a walk one warm New Year's Eve day. The previous owners did not spend anytime with him, so he ended up coming back to our house. After a 2 month "custody battle" over Tango, he finally was ours. When he was a puppy he had torn his CCL for which his previous owners had surgery to repair the tear. This past Oct.07 we noticed that he was limping on his left leg (surgery leg) after rounds of Rimadyl our vet referred us to the U of I in Urbana Illinois. On Dec.5th 2007 we were given shocking news. We had gone in to see an Orthopedic specialist and came out seeing an Oncologist. We decided to amputate his leg with follow-up chemo. Tango had OS in his left leg, radiograph shows that his other organs along with his lungs were clear. Everyday was a blessing, we stood strong. It was hard, but st the time he was not ready for us to give up on him. Life had dealt him a hard hand from the beginning. His first 3 years of his life was one without love. We always thought he was the fortunate one, turns out we were.
Tango took his last breath on 2-13-08. I got to look into his eyes, and with his daddy holding his paw he closed his eyes for the last time. Tango's original diagnosis of Osteosarcoma in Dec. 07 was changed to Hemangiosarcoma in January 08. Since Tango's diagnosis, I would whisper in his ear that I loved him very much, and that a day wouldn't go by without us thinking of him. He has left a big whole in our hearts, but he gave us something that we will cherish always. He gave us his love, devotion and in the end his bravery.
Sleep well tonight, my Big Boy
Love, Mommy and Daddy
