This is Glaceau, our very sweet, 5 years old (female) Golden Retreiver. She fell down the stairs and we discovered she had an osteosarcoma. We brought her to our Vet and to the Advanced Cancer Care Ctr, in Newburgh, NY where we received confirmation of bone cancer. So like all of the other Owners who have dogs with cancer, we scheduled her for the leg amputation. It was emotional and scary however when we picked Galceau up a few days after the surgery she was very happy to see us and hopping around very well on her 3 legs. The first 2 weeks were the hardest. We slept with her on the couch, and had to help her go outside and we hand fed her food & water. We didn't sleep much because she was having anxiety and labored breathing pretty much everynight, due to the Fentyl pain patch. It has been a little over a month since the surgery & Glaceau is doing great. She has been out running around and playing with our other retreiver, Cooper. She is eating well & in very good spirits. She can jump in and out of the Suburban and go upstairs without our help. She has had 1 chemo therapy treatment and we are hopeful that she will tolerate the chemo and be with us for a long tme. All of this is very expensive, the surgery, the chemo treatments, the blood tests, the special diet we cook for her however we feel better knowing that we are doing everything for her & we don't regret the having the surgery. We have accumulated alot of debt now, however we couldn't live with ourselves if we didn't investiate every possible avenue for her care & treatment. Our pets need us because they can't take care of themselves. If we don't care for them, who will? So we are taking it one day at a time and just thank God that Glaceau is still with us!!!
